How PrettyCozy Began: The Story

How PrettyCozy Began: The Story Behind My Cozy Little  Dream

If you had told me a few years ago that I’d be designing heated blankets, working with manufacturers halfway across the world, learning about patents and tariffs, and spending countless nights obsessing over fabric samples… I probably would have laughed.

Yet here we are.

PrettyCozy wasn’t born because I always wanted to own a business. It was born because I couldn’t find something I desperately wanted.

It Started with One Simple Thought…

I’ve always loved being cozy.

I’m the person who grabs a blanket before sitting on the couch, even in the middle of summer. But every time I looked for a heated blanket, I ran into the same problem.

They were… ugly.

They worked, sure. But they looked like something you wanted to hide in a closet instead of draping over your sofa.

I remember thinking, “Why can’t someone make a heated blanket that’s actually pretty?”

The more I searched, the more I realized it simply didn’t exist.

Eventually, I stopped asking why someone else hadn’t made it.

Instead, I started asking…

Why not me?

The Idea Grew Bigger Than I Ever Expected

What started as a simple idea quickly became something much bigger.

I didn’t just want to make another heated blanket.

I wanted to create something people would actually be excited to display in their homes.

That’s when the idea of interchangeable covers was born.

Instead of replacing an entire heated blanket every time your style changed, you could simply swap the cover. Cozy for winter. Floral for spring. Classic neutrals. Seasonal favorites.

One heated insert.

Multiple beautiful covers.

A heated blanket you don’t have to hide.

Then Reality Hit…

I quickly learned that having an idea is the easy part.

Building a business?

That’s a completely different story.

I suddenly found myself learning about things I had never even heard of before.

Manufacturing.

Product development.

Electrical safety testing.

Patents.

Trademarks.

Shipping containers.

Tariffs.

Packaging.

Website design.

Photography.

Marketing.

Social media.

Accounting.

The list never seems to end.

There have been countless moments where I’ve thought, “What in the world am I doing?”

And honestly…

Sometimes I still think that.

Taking the Biggest Leap Yet

One of the scariest moments of this journey was placing my very first manufacturing order.

It wasn’t a few hundred dollars.

It wasn’t even a few thousand.

It was $18,000.

Right before I clicked the button to send the payment, I looked at my husband and jokingly asked,

“Want to jump off a cliff with me?”

Without missing a beat, he smiled and said,

“I’d jump off any cliff with you.”

That moment perfectly sums up this entire journey.

It’s terrifying.

It’s exciting.

It’s uncertain.

But I’m incredibly thankful I don’t have to do it alone.

Why This Means So Much to Me

PrettyCozy has never been about blankets.

Not really.

It’s about creating products that make home feel a little warmer, a little softer, and a little more beautiful.

It’s about proving that functional products don’t have to sacrifice style.

It’s about taking a crazy idea that lived only in my head and turning it into something real.

And maybe, just maybe, inspiring someone else to take a chance on the dream they keep talking themselves out of.

We’re Just Getting Started

There have been plenty of setbacks.

There have been delays.

There have been moments where I’ve questioned everything.

But there have also been victories that remind me why I started.

Every preorder.

Every encouraging message.

Every person who says,

“I’ve been waiting for something like this.”

Those moments remind me that this dream isn’t just mine anymore.

So whether you’ve been following along from day one or you’ve just discovered PrettyCozy, thank you.

Thank you for cheering me on.

Thank you for believing in this little dream.

I’m so excited for what’s ahead.

Because this is only the beginning.

And I can’t wait to help transform the world of ugly heated blankets…

One PrettyCozy blanket at a time.

Because cozy should be pretty.

❤️,

Marcy
